Daringer

The cliché conversation about bringing New York back is often discussed but never is its integral components mentioned; the man behind the boards and the dynamics that the producer offers in setting the sonic landscape for the emcee to exist. In the 80s we had Marley, 90’s the Premiers and Pete Rocks, and 2000s… well that’s right around the time Hov started phoning down south to Virginia for club bangers, and Lil Jon took over radio. New York won’t be prominent again until we venerate the producer and that’s exactly where we would like to interject Buffalo NY native Daringer into the conversation. Daringer started off as a DJ it wasn’t until around 04-05 when he got interested and tried his hand at making beats. When his production graces the ear no matter your location, mentally you’re on the east coast trapped between headphones blaring sonic infusions steeped in samples, that dictate head nodding. The incredible loops make it apparent that this guy is definitely a crate digger but make no mistake in assuming his work is only worth nostalgia. Daringer’s refreshing take on traditional East Coast production sounds sinister especially when coupled with vocals from rising lyricist Westside Gun, who’s newly released Flygod album has garnered critical acclaim and is almost entirely produced Daringer.

hes currently working on upcoming projects with Roc Marciano, Conway, Mach-Hommy, Termanology and more. below is a link to a song he produced feat Conway Ft WestsideGunn & Roc Marciano Rex Ryan

Cambatta

It’s true that a single drop of ink can make a million people think. Flame-broiled sound beds with enough heat  and radiance to put  crispy critics to rest only widen the range of possibility for recording artists with vision.

New Haven, Connecticut rapper Cambatta is an infernal poet occupying that magical space between paradise and perdition. Is he the conscious rapper with a positive message for humanity, or a vile, hedonistic weed head with a natural gift for words?

By the sound of his album Smoke & Mirrors: DMT (Definitive MetaGod Trilogy) Cam’ is a defiant angel of contradiction who mocks such dichotomous labels that do nothing for artists but restrict and confine.  His powerful 17-cut LP is an imaginative musical concoction of ganja, God, and glory. Check the shamanic fun guy with the fungi and listen to his Soundcloud page below.

A.A Rashid

CHOP STICK CHARLIE is that stream of consciousness hodgepodge rap that AA Rashid has musically mastered and his fans clamor for. Rashid may very well be the first Hip Hop Artist to rhyme uhuru with Uzi, bouncing tales from his teenage years as a juvenile offender against the Swahili phrase synonymous with freedom calling to display the dynamics of his artistry. complemented by a beat that’s unerring to his style, allowing the array of ideals spewed to be easily absorb while dropping gems and giving you the ratchet. listening to charlie CHOP STICK CHARLIE is like taking a 5 minute ride in the delorean through the psyche of AA. Its sonically pain on pcp, distant detached and even hallucinating at times which makes for an amazing song reminiscent of his legendary “fard fila” track from 2014. listen below and let us know what you think.

Westside Gunn - Flygod

trust us when we say you need to have this album.... its available through itunes as well as amazon..

trust us when we say you need to have this album.... its available through itunes as well as amazon..

When the hip-hop world talks about New York emcees, the emphasis is often placed on the five boroughs. However Buffalo, New York native Westside Gunn is one artist who is on the road to changing the familiar dialogue with his debut album, Flygod.

The project, which was released on Griselda Records, showcases Gunn’s gritty punch-you-in-the-face rhymes over cinematic soundcapes filled with obscure soul samples that penetrate the listener and stimulate intrigue. The LP’s sound is a testament to the team of quality producers who contributed to the project. Its boardmen include Apollo Brown, Alchemist, Roc Marciano, Daringer, Camouflage Monk, The God Fahim and Statik Selektah.

In an age of monotone swag raps that forgo raw passion and emotional aggression to place a stronger emphasis on melody and hypnotic cadence, Gunn’s bars occupy the opposite end of the lyrical spectrum. On the track “Mr. T” he raps “Do a nigga filthy for the right price/Dom Perignon, the lobster and fried rice/One brick, one brick, all I need is one brick.”

Nevertheless, what the “Hitler Wears Hermes 2” emcee lacks in oratory finesse and subtlety he makes up for with audacity and solid guest appearances which include collaborations with Your Old Droog, Action Bronson and fellow Upstate rhyme slinger, Conway whom he collaborated with on the duo’s formidable Hall & Nash EP. The outro featuring Brooklyn bar star, producer, and creative consultant, A.A. Rashid offers a perspective on the business of art that is as compelling as it is true.

While Flygod does not offer much in the way of topical diversity, Buffalo bomber Westside Gunn demonstrates that he can be a regional force to be reckoned with in the years to come.
