Westside Gunn

Westside Gunn’s latest project is effectively titled “There’s God and There’s Flygod, Praise Both”. The Ep serves as a succinctly delivered aide memoire for Fly God’s presence as formidable emcee in the perpetual wheel of music being released.

This 20-minute offering is Westside continuing to showcase his lyrical prowess over cinematic soundscapes that induce head-nodding from listeners. Some familiar collaborates appear such as the previously DIGGGERS highlighted producer Daringer along with Benny, and the almost inseparable CONWAY.

“LOCO” protrudes from the brief and seamless sounding EP as a standout track. The song utilizes eerie production that Westside and Conway employ to further cement themselves as our modern day Rae and Ghost, in the way that there individual street narratives complement each others.

While the project is a great listen it’s not a full meal, and for that one should return to the emcees previous album, which released only a few months back. “There’s God and There’s Flygod, Praise both” may very well be Westside Gunn jabbing the competition that may believe they can slap-box. Take heed to the warning because we’re sure the full return is near.
