Atlanta has been the epicenter to find new homegrown artists and vagabonds that uproot themselves from their respective cities to strike proverbial oil to become a hip hop star. That being said, the surrounding area of Atlanta has talent as well. CDZ! Is a Marietta, Georgia native; on the cusp of becoming a mainstay himself with his first mixtape “C”; which is a play on the acronym of his name for one to “comprehend”; as he says. As many artists acquiesced to the trap sound of yesteryear and the present, he does not capitulate to the norm of his contemporaries, even though he is not strayingtoo far away from the fruits that his forefathers of Atlanta bered years ago with the sound, he injects a smidget of relatability by not taking himself too seriously with numerous “DBZ” references throughout his ep. In essence, that is the beauty behind the nerdy puns, but what really shines is the lyricism that he upholds through and through. He is no slouch on the mic. He easily conveys these messages of indirect racism from the media on the standout track “black mirrors” with great fervor and tenacity, and he succeeds gracefully and doing so. I came away thinking to myself that the ep was a great milestone and also pondering about what “D” would sound like and the direction he will take his next forthcoming mixtape to make aid to the trinity he is trying to make.
