when we stumbled onto Kaz soundcloud the first thought was who the hell is this???? the sound, vibe and over all sonics was dope!! but one thing threw us off… his views and followers, they didn’t match how dope he is. so let us introduce you to
20-year old Cody Yao, who releases all music under the name Kaz Moon, doesn’t care about genre. Having obtained an unused copy of FL Studio from his brother when he was 14, Yao found that all types of music, whether it be downtempo hip-hop inspired beats, wonky indie rock, or atmospheric electropop, could be made as long as he had a strong ear for emotion and authenticity. His regular-day life as a student at the University of Texas at Dallas inspired his latest string of releases; slightly askew pop stories about apathy, daydreaming, and emotional instability. His music has been featured and linked by music blogs such as The New LoFi and Best Before.
His penchant for genre-bending comes from his youth on the music forums of the internet in the 2000s, and from his love for the larger-than-life concept albums of that era. On the side, Kaz Moon produces for local rappers and singer-songwriters, with the hope of establishing a strong body of solo work by the end of the summer.
