Dear White People is not a “conscious” mini series. It actually satirizes the young black activist movement as a collection of sexual masochists who seek attention from the white power structure only so that they can get their backs blown by it.
The series simply promotes an idea that a lot of whites harbor about modern Black activism, which is that Blacks want to engage whites in dialogues about race for intense emotional stimulation, not to solve real problems as they arise. It’s well written with lots of witty sarcasm, but if you watch it carefully, you will see this subtext throughout the program.
Dear White People was primarily made for the entertainment and amusement of white people. Americans as a whole are being conditioned through media and theater sorcery to grow numb and indifferent to the Black plight. Your “salvation” will only come from your kin in your global community. “Dear White People” feeds the false narrative that a white person is coming back to save you.Jesus isn’t coming back. The messiah is the person looking back at you in the mirror and the person snoring next to you in bed.
